Dr. Maleyko Bio
I have a Bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Windsor. I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Detroit Mercy. I graduated from Wayne State University in 2011 with a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. I have since published a scholarly journal article along with educational practitioner articles and bulletins and have authored research that was presented at a scholarly research conference. I have used my knowledge and expertise with my doctoral studies to position myself for a potential career in research and academia while at the same time advancing my professional career in public education.
I started teaching in Dearborn in 1995 and received a full-time position at Salina in 1997. I was appointed as the Assistant Principal of Salina in 2002. I became the Principal of the Salina Intermediate School on December 1st, 2003. After serving the Salina Community for twelve years, I was appointed as the Principal at DuVall Elementary in July, 2009 where I served two years. With the support of Mr. Whiston, the superintendent along with the board of education, I became the Director of Human Resources for Dearborn Public Schools in July of 2011. In July of 2013 I was promoted to the Executive Director of Staff and Student Services for Dearborn Public Schools.
I am proud to have worked for Dearborn Public Schools since 1995 due to the strong curriculum and instruction program in the district. I am also proud to have started the Technology Integration program at DuVall Elementary where we have become state leaders with the Integration of Technology throughout the curriculum. During my years as an educational professional at both DuVall Elementary and Salina Intermediate, I was involved with hosting over 1400 teachers, parents, and administrators to provide them with training on how to implement integrate technology across the curriculum, implement a comprehensive interventions program, integrate the special education co-teaching model, and initiate a comprehensive literacy across the curriculum model.
I have given presentations at multiple conferences over the past 17 years at both the state and national level. Some of those conferences include ICLE, ACTFL, MASSP, ASCD, MACUL, NMSA, MI-ASCD, the Arkansas Literacy Conference and NCA. I was also named a model school principal by Dr. Bill Dagett’s International Center for Leadership in Education(ICLE) in 2009.
I’ve been happily married since 1996 and I have a daughter and a son. I currently enjoy playing recreational hockey and as a young adult I played at the Junior B level for the Leamington Flyers in the Western Ontario Hockey League. I have two younger sisters Jennifer and Joan and they are both teachers in Windsor, Ontario. My younger brother Jason was drafted in the sixth round of the NHL entry draft by the Ottawa Senators and he played professional hockey in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for the Toledo Storm. I also enjoy coaching both of my children in hockey and baseball. I have several years of experience coaching hockey team, which includes three years of experience coaching at the AAA travel level in Windsor, Ontario. I have also spent four years coaching my son and daughter and I was named the Volunteer of the Year by Windsor Minor Hockey Association in 2011.
My favorite team in the NHL is the Detroit Red Wings and my favorite players are Steve Yzerman and Niklas Lidstrom. My favorite television shows are “Meet the Press” and ”24″. I also enjoy reading historical biographies and books that deal with educational leadership.
